So, there are not one, but two Illamasqua Mystery Boxes at Sephora, currently.
They first started selling Illamasqua Mystery Boxes in December of 2012. I purchased one, as I love Illamasqua and was thrilled with the idea of getting two liners, two lipsticks, two lip glosses, a pressed powder eye shadow, a cream blush, a nail polish, a cream eye shadow, and a loose eye shadow for $70, given lipsticks individually cost $20 , glosses individually cost $22, pressed powder shadows cost $24, cream blushers cost $35, nail polishes cost $17, cream shadows cost $20, and loose shadows cost $21. Purchased separately, that all adds up to around $200.
The products I received were old and, in some cases, in discontinued packaging. I received colors that were obviously not popular, for example, a white eye liner and a deep red cream blusher. The cream blusher and cream shadow both had a white film on them, as did one of the lipsticks.
This is just Sephora using something Illamasqua has done successfully in the past with other stores to get rid of old product, which is frankly shameful. They’re the only place in the US licensed to sell Illamasqua, so I find this incredibly irresponsible. People are going to get a bad impression of Illamasqua from this, if they don’t realize that Sephora is behind it.
Don’t buy these! It’s not a deal if the products are going to be old and useless. Check Illamasqua’s UK site for deals, or simply purchase a single item or three for the same price. You’ll be able to choose the shades, and you won’t get old, discontinued product or packaging. Illamasqua has massively amazing sales every few months, with free international shipping over $75.
Update: Sephora no longer carries Illamasqua, unfortunately. As of this update, the following US sites sell some Illamasqua products:
Asos – Eye & lip liners, lipsticks, brow products, mascara, their very popular powder blushers, their even more popular Gleam highlighter, several eye shadow quads and one palette, the wonderful Skin Base foundation, three of the “Veil” primers, bronzing & blushing duos, several blushes, and a few other things.
Hudson’s Bay – Definitely seems to be phasing Illamasqua out, but for now, there are a few things, most of which are on sale.
The following sites carry Illamasqua, and ship to the US (and generally everywhere else):
Beauty Bay – Appears to carry most products, including all popular and newly released ones.
Selfridges – Seems to carry most products, including all popular and newly released ones. Have also done proper Mystery Boxes, ones without old product, during past holiday seasons.
Very.co.uk – Carries nearly the full range of products.
And, obviously, Illamasqua’s main site carries everything. Free US shipping when $75 is spent, free express shipping when $100 is spent.
